October 2026 Newsletter

Beautiful, colorful, crisp, cool October. The weather is winding down and we follow along, settling into our cozy routines, trading in cool drinks on the patio for dining on hearty food in plush booths. Michelin dropped in 2026 guide, and the South’s restaurant list is looking delish. Atlanta’s young kit, So Fox, received a star in its first year!

October in Atlanta is packed with all the outdoor events we delay due to scorching summers. Unfortunately, a few of my favorites were cancelled due to the tropical storm reaching us. I planned on the Breast Cancer Walk (close to my heart since my mom is a survivor), Chalktoberfest to enjoy the arts, and maybe even a visit to Piedmont Park for the energetic Pride festival. Instead I ended up curled up on my couch and did a little binge watching.

Design:

In the design industry, there were a couple of big events in October. Everyone was buzzing about High Point Market. Benjamin Moore announced its 2027 Color of the Year. Oh, and my new exciting partnership with Floor Coverings International Northeast Atlanta, a full-service mobile showroom, provider, and installer of quality flooring and wall tile.

Benjamin Moore Color Of The Year 2027 Webster Green HC-130
Benjamin Moore says this about its 2027 COTY, “Adaptable but impactful, it can easily layer into any aesthetic and breathe personality into a design. With classic confidence it echoes the past while embracing the present. Webster Green HC-130 is the quintessential shade of green.”

Community:

NFCC Fall Gift Baskets - Had a heartwarming weekend volunteering with North Fulton Community Charities to assemble and deliver festive Fall comfort baskets to senior citizens in the community. So much generosity and love went into making this event which provided over 200 care baskets possible!

Boo Bash Alpharetta - Had fun with Nikki McCauley and the State Farm crew doing crafts and passing out treats, but mostly I was there to do quality control on Juliet’s candy. We took off to the Dominican Republic the next morning for a quick girl’s trip.

Roswell Inc. - Walk Your Plans Atlanta hosted the final networking event of the year in their showroom. This is the coolest concept and a designer’s best friend. In fact, any business or home owner working with a designer or architect should take advantage of this opportunity.

Walk Your Plans projects a life-size floor plan and elevations so the client can virtually walk the space and feel confident about their decisions. Every restaurant owner should use their service for the optimum kitchen layout. It’s is worth every cent because it identifies issues ahead of time, prevents making changes after work has started, and potentially saves thousands on construction change orders.

They also have VR capability.

Art:

Creative space - Suwanee Business Alliance’s October networking event was graciously hosted by Suwanee Frame & Art. They are part framing studio, part art gallery, part creative classroom. Just an incredible business!

Jennie Hong from Floor Coverings International Northeast Atlanta brought me as a guest and raffled off a gift certificate for Rachel Backus Design’s services, kicking off our new collaboration.

Listening to:

Room to Think podcast - Foxes, Folk Art, and the Feel of Home - Hosted by Lyssia from LiLi Tile featuring artist Adam Trest.

Dopamine Chamber by Fontaines D.C. - Described as a sensory chamber meant to test "different mood-altering pieces of music", address modern disquiet, digital escapism, artificiality, and the inescapable loop of an endless "doomscroll".

Watching:

Both of these shows are about writers and are set in cool old houses.

The Beast In Me with Clare Danes - Suspense between 2 neighbors. Nefarious soundtrack. The record scene has me yearning to create a music room or little listening nook.

Marianne - French horror set in a seaside town. Imagine being alone(ish) in this 200 year old farmhouse.

Shopping:

Cozy season means Fall Front Porch updates, curling up by the fireplace (or lighting candles), and soup.

Thanksgiving - Are you ready for it? Find hosting goodies in my shop.

Nature:

Best places for leaf peeping in the U.S.? My heart is in Ohio’s stunning Cuyahoga Valley National Park.

Help sustain America’s national parks. Donate so we can enjoy the views, the leaves, and the foxes.
